RIKHI RAM SHARMA (1900-1961)

The journey of 'Rikhi Ram’ started with the original founder Late Pandit Rikhi Ram Sharma (born in native village Samoor, District Una, Himachal Pradesh, India), Late Pandit Rikhi Ram Sharma (the founder), started his career in manufacturing, exploring, innovating new techniques for the Indian traditional classical musical instruments. His devotion and dedication perfected his skills in developing the art which enabled him to acquire prominence globally. His success stands recognized by the trust and confidence reposed in him by his mentor Janab Abdul Harim Poonchwale and Janab Ramzan Khan.

The traditional musical instrument invented and developed by him became the part of life of his contemporaries, renowned maestros and leading personalities like Ustad Fayyaz Khan Sahib, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb and Pt. Onkar Nath Thakur. The bondage of Pandit Rikhi Ram with these persons became oxygen of musical performances of these contemporaries of that era. Worthwhile to say. in the absence of one, the other is incomplete. The success of performance equally depends upon the efficacy of musical instruments.

Rikhi Ram ii while enjoying his peak days of his glorious prominence was separated/uprooted by unfortunate circumstances of partition from his place of worship (work) from Lahore. The land of Delhi, the benign God, provided him a shelter at Delhi. Since Delhi has a profound history in assimilating various musical ragas and its source manufacturing of instruments, yet full of uncertainties. Nonetheless.a ray of light has provided him a hope for a new beginningThus a morning to resume his worship in his chosen field to serve again the musical industry by contributing with his innovative ideas.

The time, being on his side, he acquired his prominence in this part of the world. He started serving to the various dedicated maestros enabling them to be the part of their musical worship. In the year I961, he chose to leave this world by giving succession equipment to his only son Late Pandit Bishan Dass Sharma, who continued the journey on the path shown by his late father, encountering transitional phases of musical history with the introduction of Western music. Yet he maintained his originality of Indian traditional classical music.The contribution of late Pandit Bishan Dass Sharma is known as a legacy of Late Pandit Rikhi Ram. The said legacy continues.

Shri Sanjay Sharma. ingrained with genetic traits of his father Pandit Bishan Dass Sharma and illustriously renowned grandfather Pandit Rikhi Ram Sharma benefited with the association of a great maestro proximity to musical awardees and his personal dedication developed the perfection in developing the art and technique in traditional classical musical instruments. This art has cultivated a new dimension to his personality recognition thereof from every relevant quarters.

Shri Sanjay Sharma pursues the moral aesthetic values, following the standards modeled by his late grandfather. In his journey his better half Manjul Sharma joined him in the year I993 and has become part of the other side of the same coin. The progress. dedication and devotion is an evidence of his own interest, skills to continue with the same glorious legacy which requires that it should spread its wings globally. therefore. a new beginning to pay the tribute to the legend Pandit Rikhi Ramji.

With a view to continuing further. a unique institution is founded to keep alive the tradition of musical instruments making. research. Innovation and development pertaining to Indian Music. The institution named as “Sanjay Rikhi Ram Vadya Parampara” is an attempt to create more awareness among all sections of society to embrace this tradition of music which can solve most of the problems human society is confronted with. Also pmmosing development of musical instruments in the most authentic and traditional manner as well as to propagate ancient & modern instruments of Indian Music.
